A COUNCIL is appealing for volunteers to help with a community spruce-up.
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council's countryside rangers want recruits for Volunteers Week, which starts on Thursday and runs till next Wednesday.
Tasks include path repairs, step construction and weed control in woods, scrubland and cycle trails.
Tools and guidance will be provided on the day. Volunteers are asked to bring sensible clothing and a packed lunch. All activities are free.
The list of events is:
* Tomorrow, 10am to 3pm - meet at Flatts Lane Woodland Country Park, Normanby, for step-building on Eston Bank. The paths leading up the steep slopes of Eston and Lazenby Banks need urgent attention to control erosion. Contact David Spencer on (01642) 459629.
l Friday, 10am to 3pm - meet at Saltburn Valley Woodland Centre to repair paths through the valley in the morning, then clear vegetation in the afternoon. Contact Neil Thirkell on (01287) 622408.
l Friday to Sunday, 10am to 3pm - meet at Errington Wood's picnic area for charcoal making, chopping wood on Friday, green woodworking activities on Saturday and Sunday, barbecue on Saturday night. Contact Keith Ferry on (01642) 776912.
l Monday, 10am to 3pm - meet at Flatts Lane Woodland Country Park to give picnic area a facelift, including resurfacing the floor and furniture maintenance. Contact Liz Robinson/Helen Taylor on (01642) 459629.
l Tuesday, 10am to noon, 1pm to 3pm - meet at Guisborough Forest and Walkway Visitor Centre to clear rosebay and willowherb along the old railway line in the morning, then improving forest footpaths in the afternoon. Call Deborah Jefferson on (01287) 631132.
