EASINGTON'S MP John Cummings is urging schools in his constituency to take part in a project aimed at uniting the UK's children in song.
The Song for Peace project is a joint initiative by teachers' union NASUWT, the charity Youth Music and the organisation Peace One Day.
The aim is to encourage schools across the country on the United Nations International Day of Peace, September 21, to sing a song for peace entitled No Wars Will Stop Us Singing.
Mr Cummings said: "This innovative project provides a great opportunity for everyone to focus on seeking to resolve conflict within the family, at school, in the community and across the world.
"Engaging schools in singing to mark the International Day of Peace will not only keep this important message alive throughout the year, but will send out a powerful message about young people working in harmony.''
The MP said that music was one of the most effective ways to engage children and young people on important issues.
He said: "I am delighted to be involved in a campaign that uses music as a means to spread the important messages surrounding young people."
