A WEBSITE to help people get on to the housing ladder through a Government scheme has been launched.
It has been created to help eligible residents in the North-East access information about the Government's HomeBuy scheme, which aims to help recent university graduates, key workers and council tenants buy their own homes.
It contains a comprehensive database of all Government-funded HomeBuy schemes in the region, as well as information on eligibility criteria and details of how to apply.
Nomad Homes, which launched the website, are the only organisation in the region to have been awarded Government HomeBuy Agent status.
Under the scheme, there are three types of HomeBuy. They are:
* New Build HomeBuy - new builds purchased via a housing association on a part buy/part rent basis.
* Open Market HomeBuy - homes bought on the open market with help from a government funded equity loan.
* Social HomeBuy - existing council tenants who buy their current home on a part buy-part rent basis, receiving a discount on their initial purchase.
People who could qualify for these schemes include housing association or council tenants in areas of high demand or who are high priority; people who live in areas proposed for demolition; and new graduates from the region's universities.
People who need to live in remote rural areas for work or to support family members, and families experiencing housing difficulties due to separation or divorce could also be eligible.
