THOUSANDS of steam enthusiasts flocked to the region at the weekend to visit one of the area's most popular annual events.
The Streatlam Steam Rally has established itself as one of the highlights on the calendar for enthusiasts and families alike since it was established eight years ago.
Held in a farmer's field on the outskirts of Barnard Castle, County Durham, it has become a showcase for steam engine collectors and proud owners of vintage cars and vehicles from all over the country.
Every year, the number and quality of exhibits increases, which is just reward for organisers who work hard all year to put on the three-day event.
Organiser John Toulson said yesterday that at least 5,000 visitors had passed through the gates.
He said: "Everyone seems to be enjoying themselves, which makes the hard work worthwhile.''
The show continues today from 10am
