A POLICE inspector has returned to take charge of the area he fell in love with as a junior constable.
Inspector Nick Hunter is the new officer responsible for policing in Richmondshire.
The 38-year-old began his career with the police as a probationary constable at Richmond and Leyburn in 1987.
He transferred to Northallerton in 1994, before returning three years later as a sergeant covering the Catterick Garrison and Richmond area. He was promoted to inspector in 2003 and took charge at Richmond on May 1.
He said: "It's a great feeling to be able to come back to a place that's very dear to my heart and be responsible for its policing.
"This year we're looking to reduce crime by six per cent and achieve a detection rate of 40 per cent."
Insp Hunter, who is married and lives in the Brompton-on-Swale area, has been a member of Richmond Rugby Club for 12 years. He is also a member and treasurer of Richmond Pool League and is lead vocalist and plays rhythm guitar with local group Something Blue.
