THE families and friends of children at a village school had the chance to taste fairly traded food from the Third World.
Pupils at Kelloe Primary School spent the week learning about the Fairtrade movement and how, under conventional trading, producers often receive little for what they grow.
The school held a sampling day for the youngsters' families and friends at which they could try things such as coffee, chocolate, wine, honey and fruit, which were supplied by the Co-op.
School headteacher Carol Mustacs said that, as well as learning how Fairtrade works, the pupils found out about different countries, their geography and climates.
Money raised through a collection initiated by parents will be given to the charity Christian Aid.
