A GROUP of students went from Bishop Auckland to Barcelona in the name of art.

The 30 students, from Bishop Auckland College, who visited the cultural Spanish city, each created a piece of work inspired by their visit, all of which will be displayed in an exhibition at Bishop Auckland Town Hall from next week.

The youngsters visited some of the major landmarks of the city, including Parc Guell, La Pedrera, Casa Batlo and La Temple de la Sagrada Famillia, as well as seeing works by Gaudi and Picasso.

The pieces reflect the students' specialist interests, such as painting, sculpture, graphic design, photography, fashion and textiles.

Mike Jinks, who accompanied the students, said: "The trip was judged, by both staff and students alike, to have been successful and enjoyable.

"The students who came on this trip were lively, energetic and responsive, and at all times conducted themselves with respect and decorum."

Students set up the exhibition in the town hall's McGuinness Gallery yesterday, and it opens to the public from Tuesday until Saturday, June 10.
