THE victim of a cold-blooded execution was named by police today as 42-year-old David Rice.
Mr Rice was shot several times by two masked men as he sat in a car at a North-East beauty spot at around 4pm yesterday.
Northumbria Police said a 46-year-old man was arrested this morning in connection with the murder in South Shields, South Tyneside.
Mr Rice, of St. Vincent Street, South Shields, was shot in the car park overlooking the sea close to Marsden Grotto.
The arrested man is from Wallsend, North Tyneside.
The gunmen drove off in a black Ford Mondeo which was found abandoned in Lizard Lane.
Detective Superintendent Barbara Franklin, heading the inquiry, said: This appears to have been a cold-blooded killing carried out in broad daylight in front of a number of people who were out enjoying the sunshine.
