FOUR students are celebrating after securing sponsorship from a retail frozen foods distributor to build a model Formula One racing car.
The Burn Rubber team, from Boroughbridge High School, has secured the £350 funding from local company Reed Boardall.
To win the funding, the team of Katy Scott, Jamie Mulhall, Sarah Barker and Joanna Kuunal, from year seven, made a presentation to Reed Boardall's group managing director Keith Boardall.
One of four teams at the school to participate in the "F1 in Schools" annual challenge, Burn Rubber will use the sponsorship to pay for the design and manufacturing of the CO2 powered car.
Michael Robinson, the school's design technology teacher, introduced the idea to the students in October last year.
"The students have to work on the project during dinner time, so it shows their commitment," he said.
"The challenge is introducing these young teenagers to real-world skills at an early age.
"It teaches them about budgeting, deadlines, team work and presentation skills.
"They worked really hard on their presentation to Reed Boardall and we are all delighted their pitch was successful enough to secure the full amount."
