EAST End WMC crowned a brilliant campaign by capturing their third trophy of the season, The Northern Echo Darlington Sunday Invitation League Cup.
They went in to Sunday's game against Nestfield Club aiming to make it a clean sweep having already secured the league title as well as the Division One Cup which they had one the previous week, 9-1 over bottom-of-the-table Shuttle and Loom.
But, having finished as runners-up in the Division One title race, opponents Nestfield posed a bigger threat so such a high-scoring win was never likely and, as expected, it was a close final.
Played at Darlington RA, Nestfield started really brightly, dominating the play for the first half hour and they deservedly took the lead through an Adie Weston goal.
The lead would have been extended had it not been for East End keeper and Lee Hutton who pulled off two excellent saves to keep his team in the game.
East End then equalised through Gary Barnes and took the lead through Neil Tarrant just before the interval.
The second half was a more dogged affair with neither side creating many scoring opportunities until East End made sure of the victory with a Neil Jackson penalty five minutes from the end.
Shuttle & Loom required three points from their remaining two games to avoid relegation from Division One but lost them both.
The first defeat was a 4-2 loss to East End WMC last Thursday, which was followed by 5-0 thumping against Haughton WMC on Sunday, confirming Shuttle will be in Division Two next season.
Goalscorers for Haughton were Dave Raine (3), Jamie Bowman and Mike Colman with one each.
The final game in Division Two saw the top two sides, Model T and Haughton, play out a 3-3 draw, while the last game in the basement division saw New All Stars beat Peladon United 4-3.
All teams are reminded that the league's annual presentation evening takes place tomorrow night at 7.45pm in a large marquee at Darlington RA.
