A FOOTBALL team representing a North-East train company got up a head of steam to win a national tournament.
The competition, held at the Goals Soccer Centre in Glasgow at the end of last month, saw eight teams representing traffic and travel companies throughout the country battling it out.
GNER Darlington came out on top in the six-a-side event, seeing off the seven other teams taking part which included two teams from Durham Police.
There were also three sides representing British Transport Police Leeds, a team from British Transport Police Scotland and guest entrants Pedley United.
The team won five, drew one and lost one of their games, and a 5-2 win over British Transport Police Scotland was enough to see them top the table.
Goalkeeper Nick Woodward said:"It was excellent and it was a very good standard. It was very tight at the top.
"We were very thrilled to win it as we had all battled very hard, and everyone played superbly."
