A SCHOOL has received recognised for encouraging healthy living among pupils.
Leadgate Community Junior School, near Consett, has been awarded National Healthy School Status.
Headteacher Jane Cain was presented with a certificate marking the achievement by Collette O'Brien, of Derwentside Primary Care Trust.
The school teaches children about eating well, the importance of exercise and being good citizens, as well as giving classes on emotional health, anti-bullying and relationships.
Ms O'Brien said: "A healthy school is one that is successful in helping its pupils to do their best and build on their achievements and by raising their awareness of the importance of their health and well-being.
"We will hopefully see fitter and healthier people in Derwentside in the future. I would like to congratulate all the staff and pupils at Leadgate Community Junior School on achieving this award."
Mrs Cain said: "The school focuses on many aspects of health and well-being, which includes pupils' self-esteem and confidence, maintaining positive relationships and coping with problems such as bullying.
"Children are encouraged to value exercise and healthy eating choices and understand the impact these will have on their future life.
"The award endorses the many features related to health and well-being, which are an integral part of our school and we are absolutely delighted to receive this award."
