GROUPS from Middlesbrough and Redcar and Cleveland are being invited on a course designed to help them explore North Yorkshire's moors.
Walking in the Countryside: Part One will give participants vital skills, and has been organised by the North York Moors National Park Authority's Heritage Connections team.
The training is free, and is a repeat of a successful course run last November.
It covers the countryside code, rules and regulations affecting walkers, public rights of way and basic map reading skills.
Participants will also design their own guided walk.
Vicky Rees, project co-ordinator, said: "The part one course is aimed at beginners and no previous experience of walking in the outdoors is needed to take part. Walking is a great way to get exercise and meet new people."
Heritage Connections is a five-year project supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, and aims to encourage groups in the region to discover the National Park on their doorsteps.
It is also encouraging people in urban communities near the North York Moors to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
The course is held at The Moors Centre on June 17 from 10am to 3pm. Groups interested in participating can call Susanna Rashid on 07968 498624.
