ROCKETS will be launched into the sky at an event next month.
Stockton Borough Council's parks and countryside team is hosting Build a Rocket, at Wynyard Woodland Park, on Thursday, June 1.
Youngsters are asked to bring along two two-litre plastic pop bottles, which they will be able to decorate and name before the launch.
The event has been organised by Wynyard planetarium and observatory, with help from Cleveland and Darlington Astronomical Society. In previous events, rockets have reached heights of up to 250ft.
Councillor Jean O'Donnell, cabinet member for arts, leisure and culture, said: "This will be a wonderful event and a great way to get youngsters interested in science in a fun and creative atmosphere."
The event runs from 1.30pm to 3.30pm, and under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. Advance booking is essential as places are limited.
