RESCUED rabbits and guinea pigs are enjoying a free feast thanks to an organic produce company.
Farmaround, in Richmond, North Yorkshire, is giving its waste vegetables to the town's Bunny Burrows animal sanctuary.
Founder and managing director Isobel Davies saw that broken carrots and celery, outer cabbage leaves and other produce that could not be sold were going to waste, so she called Gwen Butler, who runs Bunny Burrows.
Mrs Butler said: "I was spending about £120 a week on fresh produce for the rabbits and guinea pigs, so the offer of free veg from Farmaround was wonderful and has helped cut our bills."
Mrs Butler calls at the Farmaround warehouse, on the Gallowfields Trading Estate, once a week and collects the leftovers.
Marielle Astwood, quality assurance overseer for the Farmaround shop, in Newbiggin, Richmond, said: "We were only too pleased to offer our waste produce to Bunny Burrows, which does a wonderful job rescuing and re-homing rabbits and guinea pigs.
"This partnership means we have less waste and the bunnies enjoy an organic treat."
