THE World Cup is coming to North Yorkshire - in a distinctly flowery style.
The people of Bishop Monkton, near Boroughbridge, are jumping on the football bandwagon with their own Fifa Festival.
And although the beautiful game will be the theme, in their case Fifa stands for Football Inspired Floral Art.
The event, which is being staged at St John the Baptist Parish Church, will run from Saturday to Monday, between 10am and 4pm each day.
Two football clubs have given prizes for competitions. Uefa Cup finalists Middlesbrough have donated a VIP visit for four to their ground.
During their visit the group will go behind the scenes, see the players' dressing room, the pitch side, the tunnel area, the hospitality area, the Press box and the board room. This will be the star prize in a raffle.
Leeds United have donated a framed and signed photograph of the team. This will go to the winner of the adults' football quiz. Other footballing goodies can be won in the children's quiz.
Organiser Jane Newsome said: "We think we will capture the mood of the moment, and think we will have an event which will excite everyone."
Admission is £2 and children under 16 go free. Refreshments will be served.
