A NEW mayor wants to highlight the positive work young people do during her year in office.
Councillor Mary Ovens, who has been elected mayor for Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, also wants to raise the borough's tourism profile.
The retired PE teacher has named Marie Curie Cancer Care and The Junction, a Redcar young people's support group, as her charity choices.
Coun Ovens said: "I want to promote the borough in every way I can, especially by raising the tourism profile and telling people this is a great place to visit.
"I'm equally determined to support youth involvement in the decision-making process. I want to try to visit as many of our youth organisations and schools as I can."
