Wearside League: Whitehaven will clinch the championship if they beat Annfield Plain.

The Cumbrians are level on points with Stokesley SC but their only rivals for the title have just one game to play, against Ryhope CW next Wednesday. Whitehaven's goal difference is also vastly superior to Stokesley's.

Teesside Athletic are looking to finish in the top four but for their final home fixture of the season against Gateshead Low Fell at Green Lane, Redcar miss several players.

Billy Millington, Paul Curry, Ian Mudd, Ian Johnson, Andy Bean and Lee Fryett are all out. Goalkeeper Phil Northway and Steve Hodgson return.

Next Friday, Teesside meet Jarrow in the final of the Monkwearmouth Charity Cup at Perth Green. Transport is available and anyone interested should ring 01642 470963.

Today, Jarrow have a full squad available for the visit of Wolviston, who are strengthened by the return of Jimmy Greening, Darren Paul and Stephen Kilpatrick.

Only one other fixture is scheduled, with Boldon CA at home against Cleator Moor Celtic. Following midweek victories over Jarrow and Coxhoe Athletic, Boldon are aiming for a top-six finish.

Spennymoor director of football Ken Houlahan has dismissed calls from a group of supporters for the club's board to resign.

A group of fans from the Spennymoor United Independent Supporters' Association (SUISA) have passed a vote of no confidence in the directors at a recent meeting, but Houlahan said: "Spennymoor Town FC wish to make it clear, that SUISA is not, and never has been, Spennymoor Town's Supporters' Association.

"SUISA is an independent, minority, self-interest group, reportedly 12 in number at the last count, whose aims are in direct opposition to the club, and which has no constitutional role whatsoever in the club.

"The views of this group are largely unrepresentative of the overwhelming mass of supporters and any decisions taken by them regarding the club are meaningless gestures and carry no authority whatsoever.

"Furthermore, and as a result of unacceptable behaviour by prominent members of the group which started as early as pre-season and which has brought the club into disrepute, the club has been compelled to disassociate itself fully from SUISA."

ANL Division One champions Newcastle Blue Star have appointed Eric Tait as manager.

Tait, who has managed Berwick Rangers in the Scottish League, takes over from Tony Lee after spending the last three months of the season alongside him in the dugout.

Star general manager Bob Morton said: "Eric was a unanimous choice."
