YOUNG scientists and engineers of the future gathered at Bedale High School for an annual event yesterday.
The school hosted its third science, technology, engineering and mathematics fair, attended by about 150 pupils from feeder primary schools in the area, with five workshops led by visiting organisations and teachers.
The event included a workshop by engineers Mouchel Parkman, of Northallerton, on the design of highways, building new roads and improving existing ones.
Other workshops were conducted by the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and the National Railway Museum at York, while teachers from Bedale High School led pupils in such subjects as food technology and textiles. Science City York and North Yorkshire Road Safety Partnership were also present.
Graham Turner, headteacher at Bedale High School, said: "I know from the feedback received from the primary headteachers and the children that the day is a much valued occasion.''
