NATURE lovers are being invited to take part at a series of events during the half-term holidays.
Rainton Meadows Visitor Centre, near Houghton-le-Spring, is planning a programme of activities aimed at children and families.
Sweet Peas for Bees takes place from 1.30pm on Tuesday, May 30, when visitors can take a closer look at the bumblebees to be found on the reserve and their favourite plants - the sweet pea.
There is a charge of £2 per child.
A young pavement artists competition takes place on Wednesday, May 31. Visitors will be given coloured chalks and a one-metre pitch to decorate on the them of rainforests. Visitors are welcome to drop in any time between 1.30pm and 3pm, with judging taking place at 3:15pm.
Each pitch costs £1 and half of all money raised goes to the Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Charity.
Underwater Wonders will give youngsters a chance to explore the reserve's pond life at 1.30pm on Thursday, June 1. The charge is £2.
