CHARITY footballers hit their cash goal during a staff versus pupils match.
The two teams from Spennymoor School, in Whitworth Lane, took to the pitch in aid of Macmillan Cancer Relief and raised more than £600 for the cause.
The school's team had already been competing in Durham County Schools Under-19s League, after being formed by 17-year-old Andrew Spenceley.
Andrew organised the charity event and has also contacted professional clubs and the FA for donations to a charity auction.
The school's administration manager, Janet Cherrett, said: "What Andrew decided to do was completely off his own back and for the team that he had assembled in the first place.
"The staff drafted in some former students and teachers from other schools, but despite that, the kids still beat them 3-2.
"Andrew has done a wonderful job and he is a great asset to the school.
"He even gave away the gift vouchers that the school awarded him as a thank you to buy footballs for the local primary schools."
