HARTLEPOOL United club captain Micky Barron has insisted he wants to stay at the club, writes Will Scott.

Barron is currently out of contract at Victoria Park although he has a testimonial game against Leeds United in July, and admits he is keen to commit his future to the club as soon as possible.

Pool's long-serving defender could have his cause helped by the club's decision to accept Darren Williams' transfer request.

Williams, who made 27 appearances for the club - mainly in Barron's right back position - following last summer's move from Cardiff, has cited personal reasons for wanting to leave.

"Obviously I want to stay," said Barron who made only 15 appearances in League One due to wretched luck with injury.

"I have been here ten years and have had more highs than lows. I want to play a part next season."

Meanwhile, Bradford City have been linked with a move for Thomas Butler.
