AN award-winning North-East park received a fragrant addition to its sensory garden yesterday.
As part of ongoing developments at Roker Park, in Sunderland, a range of herbs and aromatic shrubs were planted in a community event.
The planting was undertaken by pupils from the Dame Dorothy School, in partnership with the Friends of Roker Park and park staff.
The plants were supplied by New Row Farm Nurseries, in County Durham.
Norman Atkinson, horticultural co-ordinator from Sunderland City Council, said: "We are delighted to be involving our friends and partners in a community project to improve the scented garden of this popular park.
"Roker park is one of three parks in Sunderland to fly the prestigious Green Flag."
He added: "By improving the park further, we hope to encourage more residents and visitors to enjoy its beauty, historical features and now its sensory plants.''
