YOUNG bookworms on Teesside have been bringing their stories to life after receiving help from a housing developer.

Harron Homes answered a plea from Skelton Primary School, in east Cleveland, to sponsor its new concept of "story sacks".

The sacks are filled with props and reading materials so children can literally act out their favourite stories while they are reading them.

Harron sponsored 15 sacks for the younger children, while older children were given an on-site lesson in health and safety at one of its sites in Skelton.

Stephen Armitage, sales and marketing director for Harron Homes Yorkshire, said: "As a developer, we pride ourselves on innovation and are always encouraged by new and exciting concepts within the local communities where we operate. It has been a pleasure to develop our links with the school and be of some assistance to the education of the children there."

Local site manager Dave Farrar invited pupils to take part in a tour of the site. He said: "It is imperative that Harron Homes encourages site safety in local communities, as in the past ten years, a large number of children have been killed and more than 400 seriously injured through trespassing on construction sites across Britain.

"One of the most important things we do is to visit local schools in order to educate the children on the many dangers."

Mr Farrar was also on hand to present three competition winners with book vouchers following a competition to design posters relating to site safety.
