A CAR salesman is swapping cars for cues this month as he aims to retain his World Billiards Championship crown.
Chris Shutt, 28, who works at Sherwood's Vauxhall and Chevrolet dealership in Northallerton, will defend his title against the world's best players at Pontins Holiday Park, in Prestatyn, North Wales.
After he beat Mike Russell in last year's final, Mr Shutt, who is originally from Stockton, added the trophy to a growing list of billiards accolades.
His first success was in 1996 when he won the National Junior Billiards Championship, which he followed by reaching the World Matchplay final in 1999 and 2001.
He reached the quarter finals of the World Championships in 2001, aged just 23.
The tournament will start on May 30 and the competitors will play for a top prize of £5,000.
Mr Shutt, who lives with his wife, Lisa, and son, Samuel, in Middlesbrough, said: "I am really looking forward to this year's championship, although it is always more difficult going in as the defending champion.
"There are some very talented players taking part, but I am feeling confident."
