THE work of young librarians has been honoured at an awards ceremony.
Nearly 150 student librarians from 19 schools received certificates at the event, at the King's Academy, in Coulby Newham, Middlesbrough.
The youngsters spent two terms completing written and practical tasks to pass a training scheme run by the Schools Resources Service.
Some students have gone on to study for a second year on the advanced course, which includes mentoring and supporting the first-year students.
Their coursework, on display at the academy, was praised by children's author Theresa Breslin.
Mrs Breslin, who worked as a librarian, said: "Collating, exploring and channelling information and helping people towards an enjoyment of books and literature is a mind-moving experience."
The 19 schools represented at the presentation were The King's Academy; Blakeston School, Stockton; Bydales School, Marske; Egglecsliffe School; Gillbrook Technology College, Middlesbrough; Huntcliff School, Saltburn; Ian Ramsey School, Stockton; Newlands School, Middlesbrough; The Norton School; Redcar Community College; Rye Hills School, Redcar; Sacred Heart School; St Hild's School, Hartlepool; St Michael's School, Billingham.
Joining the scheme for the first time this year were All Saints' School, Ingleby Barwick; Eston Park School; Macmillan Academy, Middlesbrough; and Yarm School.
