RESIDENTS could be asked to help pay for repairs to Hurworth village green.
Over recent months, members of Hurworth Parish Council have become concerned over the deteriorating condition of the green.
Last Tuesday, the council reported on the areas in need of the greatest repair, including large potholes on the grass and inroads.
It said urgent measures are needed to stop cars from parking and driving over the curbs.
Chairman Bal Shukla said: "Photos were taken at the recent site visit of the state of the green.
"I would suggest that the curbs could be raised higher by a couple of inches to try and improve the parking situation."
Councillor Peter Foster agreed and said people were deterred from parking on the grass where the curbs were higher.
He said: "Something needs to be done, and I would suggest we ask Darlington Borough Council to repair the potholes on the green and resurface the roads."
A scheme is being drawn up to raise the curbs and paint yellow zigzag lines outside Hurworth House School to ease parking problems.
Councillor John Lawrie suggested the council could approach residents for a contribution.
