A YOUTH festival is celebrating its third year of success by moving to a larger venue.

The Ryedale Youth Fest draws on the skills of local young people who will perform on stage and run workshops as part of the six-hour event on July 2.

Organised by Ryedale's Child and Youth Projects, the event will be staged on one of the large showfields on the Malton to Pickering road, near the Black Bull Inn.

Project manager Andy Brown said he was hoping more than 2,000 young people would be taking part.

"Last year, we saw an amazing 1,500 youngsters joining us for the Youth Fest when it was staged at Malton Rugby Club. Now that it is an established event, we are confident even more people will turn up," he said.

Local bands are already lining up to take to the stage for the festival and there is also space being made available for young people to take to the microphone on the day.

"We had teenagers who wanted to sing last year and others who wanted to do some MC and DJ work, so we are making space for those kind of acts as well," said Andy.

Anyone interested in taking part on stage or running a workshop is asked to contact arts development officer Jane Margett on (01751) 474747.
