YOUNGSTERS donned traditional Polish dress to bid farewell to a teacher who is returning to her homeland.
Ewelina Franczuk, 22, has worked at St Joseph's RC Primary School in Coundon for the past school year, but returns to Poland today.
Yesterday was her final day at the school and a special assembly was held in her honour.
Children dressed in colourful Polish-style clothing and sang and danced to music from the country to thank her for her support.
Headteacher Stefa McManners said: "Everybody enjoyed it and the children told stories and sang songs. She has helped give staff confidence in teaching foreign languages.
"She loved teaching here and she has seen a lot of the North-East and appreciated the beautiful countryside.
"Hopefully, we'll keep in touch and she has said she will visit in the future."
Miss Franczuk taught French and Polish languages at the school, helping them learn about the phrases and cultures of the two countries.
