A MAN who headbutted a pub manager after he refused to let him into a bar to celebrate his 21st birthday has been warned he may face jail.

Matthew Brown of Winn Lane, Topcliffe, near Thirsk, admitted common assault at Northallerton Magistrates Court yesterday.

Pub manager, Jonathan Davies suffered a one inch cut and broken nose in the attack on April 16.

Chairman of the bench, John Seymour, told him: "This was a serious assault including a headbutt, which we are told to deal with extremely seriously. We expect the writer of that pre-sentence report to very seriously consider whether you should go to prison."

The court heard that Brown, who was barred from the Angel Inn, in Topcliffe, on New Year's Eve last year, went to the pub on his 21st birthday.

Mr Davies refused to allow him entry and Brown swore at him repeatedly before headbutting him. In interview, Brown said Mr Davies had been abusive towards him.

The case was adjourned until Friday, June 9 for sentencing.
