A TEAM from a Teesside girls' school has won the North-East A-Level Maths competition.
Amy Dryden, Amelia Al-Qazzaz and Jenny Mace, from Teesside High School, in Eaglescliffe, beat a rival team from Yarm School by 31 points to 22 in the final.
The teams were level at 20 points after the third round and it was all to play for in the final round.
Helen Dey, head of maths at Teesside High, said: "The fourth round was tense and closely fought, but Amelia and Jenny managed to gain bonus points by answering their opponents' questions, as well as their own questions, correctly.
"It was such an exciting final that I could hardly contain myself. The girls did extremely well to beat Yarm on their home territory - we're really proud of them."
