A MAGAZINE published by young people for young people is to hit the streets later this year.
Titled Yo-Yo, the publication will be written and edited by youngsters in Stockton, with support from Stockton Borough Council and the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund.
Copies will be distributed to young people across the borough.
The project is part of the council's commitment to involve young people in their community and offer ways for them to participate.
More than 40 young people joined youth workers at an initial meeting organised by the council's youth service to talk about how to become involved.
Councillor Alex Cunningham, cabinet member for children and young people, said: "The enthusiasm being shown by the young people who have come forward so far is tremendous.
"They will be doing the lion's share of the work themselves - with little more than a guiding hand here and there - and I'm impressed by the way they are taking on such a big project.
"I wish them every success with their magazine, and I'm confident the end product will be something they'll be proud of."
Alison Stephenson, head of services integration at the council, said: "I'm delighted that this project is going ahead.
"It was the young people themselves who came up with the idea to have a youth magazine when they took part in our Youth Matters consultation last year."
The Yo-Yo team will welcome stories or offers of help from young people, aged 11 to 19, living in Stockton borough.
