THREE cyclists are saddling up to take on the John O'Groats to Lands Ends challenge for charity.
Friends David Hughes, 34, Andrew Laing, 46 and Terry Brunton, 48, will start the 13-day ride on Friday.
Mr Hughes, of Eston, said: "We are all keen cyclists and wanted to help raise money for Teesside Hospice, which cares for local people with life-limiting illnesses, so we decided to embark on this ambitious cycle tour."
The journey has been planned in memory of friend Mark Trees, who was due to set off on the same trip last year, but lost his life after a battle with cancer.
"I feel this is an appropriate way to celebrate his life and thank the hospice for the care he and his family received," said Mr Hughes.
"We have completed months of training in preparation for the trip and are expecting to ride on average 80 miles per day.
"We are extremely grateful to MB Distribution, of Skippers Lane, Middlesbrough, who are sponsoring our transport to and from the start line and finish line, including two volunteer drivers.
"We are hoping to raise awareness of Teesside Hospice and the invaluable work it does as we pass through the various towns and villages on route. We really need everyone's help to cheer us on and get through this challenging ride."
The riders hope to raise in excess of £1,000 and are looking for sponsorship.
