ONLINE accommodation provider Bedsearcher has launched a website for walkers and climbers.

The "walks and peaks" site offers information on walks throughout the UK and allows users to book accommodation en route.

The site's search engine technology allows users to input Ordnance Survey grid references, postcodes or place names to find a suitable walk and to book accommodation.

Jim Mann, founder of Bedsearcher, which is based in Darlington, said: "This site puts the customer in charge of their holiday itinerary - they can decide where they want to walk and look for suitable accommodation or decide where they want to stay and look for a walk or climb nearby."

Users are able to search through thousands of walk routes by region and access detailed information and images.

"Previously, outdoor enthusiasts have had to access several different resources in order to get this much information and, even then, were unlikely to be able to entirely plan and book a trip with such confidence and accuracy," said Mr Mann. "We believe a holiday or trip should start with the planning and it should be a pleasurable experience."

Bedsearcher was established in 2002 and allows people to book a room at thousands of hotels, guest houses and B&Bs in the UK and Europe.
