LAW firm Irwin Mitchell has presented Northumbria University's student law office with a cheque for £3,000 to support its free work in the community.
Julie Fawcett, para-legal at Irwin Mitchell's Newcastle office and former Northumbria University law student, presented the cheque to students Paul Henderson and Victoria Gleason.
She said: "Having been a student at Northumbria University and having worked in the student law office, I am happy that Irwin Mitchell are supporting it.
"It advances a student's practical knowledge and gives you an invaluable insight into what you will be doing in a law firm by allowing you to see the law in practice."
The student law office is in the University's Sutherland Building, in Northumberland Road, and is the only one of its kind in the UK.
It provides a free legal service for people and is run by law students and supervised by legally qualified members of staff.
Each year, the office takes on hundreds of cases.
Philip Plowden, associate dean at Northumbria University, said: "This money is invaluable and will help towards the running of the programme.
"It will enable us to take on more work and will support our work in the community.
"Next year's students will be starting an outreach programme and this money will be used to help pay for expenses and administrative costs."
