BUSINESSES that protect the environment will be honoured next month.

Television presenter Clarissa Dickson Wright will be the guest speaker at the North-East Awards for Excellence, at Beamish Hall, County Durham, on Monday, June 19.

The chef and countryside campaigner, who was one half of the Two Fat Ladies in the popular television series of the same name, will urge guests to buy locally-sourced produce.

Now in their ninth year, the awards recognise commitment to the community, including good environmental practice.

They are organised by Business in the Community, a business-led charity, and backers include CE Electric UK.

There will also be a drinks reception sponsored by regional development agency One NorthEast. More information is available at www.bitc.org.uk on the North-East page.
