A FAMESTYLE school for theatrical youngsters in the Chester-le-Street area proved a hit when it opened its doors for the first time.
The New World Academy of Performing Arts, run by the Kent-based New World Productions theatre company, held its first session on Saturday morning, at the Park View Community School's theatre - and every place was taken.
The academy, which has branches across the country, is aimed at children aged five to 16, and offers three-hour classes that cover drama, singing and dancing. It will also stage its own shows.
Artistic director Guy Pascall said: "The first session was full up, we had 50 kids signed up, so we'll be doing an afternoon session as well, from next Saturday.
"In each term, there will be guest appearances from TV, radio and theatre personalities to host workshops with the children.
"At the end of every year, there will be a showcase for parents to see what their children have been learning over the course.
"Children will also be guaranteed a place to perform in New World Productions professional shows in and around the area throughout the year.
