LOCAL and national issues were put under the spotlight when four prominent members of the community formed the panel for a Question Time-style debate.
Fielding questions from Prior Pursglove College students were Professor Graham Henderson, vice-chancellor of the University of Teesside, Dr Ashok Kumar, Labour MP for South Middlesbrough and East Cleveland, Martin Callanan, Conservative MEP for South Durham and Cleveland, and Ian Swales, prospective Liberal Democrat candidate for Redcar and Cleveland.
The session was chaired by student Ed Read, a member of the Guisborough college's debating society.
Fiona Weatherill, who organised the session with the students, said: "The society is very active in college, and the students are keen to bring in external speakers. They saw this event as a rehearsal for next year's entry into the national BBC Schools' Question Time Competition."
