EIGHT new Wear Walking for Health routes are being launched this week.
Leaflet packs for the walks mapped out by volunteer leaders and walkers in Crook and Howden-le-Wear are available from tomorrow, after the launch at 1.30pm in Crook Library.
The walks have been developed by leaders Carole Dodds and Christine Gibson through an initiative involving the Parish Paths Partnership, Wear Walking for Health, Howden-le-Wear Primary School and the village's Local History Society, with support from Crook and Weardale Ramblers.
A circular walk called Crook around the Compass leaves the library at 2pm.
The four Howden routes offer an insight into the village's past and present and were explored by school pupils during lessons.
