The 12-year-old son of Hartlepool MP, Iain Wright has suffered a stroke after playing football with friends.
Iain Wright, who succeeded Peter Mandelson as MP, is waiting for more news on his son Benjamin.
The alert was raised by Mr Wright's father Mervyn, 63, after Benjamin arrived at his home from Manor College of Technology, Hartlepool.
Benjamin was rushed to the University Hospital of Hartlepool where tests for a blood clot, brain haemorrhage or brain tumour proved negative.
He was transferred to Newcastle General Hospital for further tests, where it was established that he had suffered a stroke on Friday, April 28.
Benjamin is now recovering but will require physiotherapy and rest. He has gained most of his feeling back in his left side.
He will return to school on a part-time basis in the short-term.
Mr Wright, who lost his grandmother Joyce Harland, 77, earlier this month, stressed that parents should not panic but warned them to look out for changes in movement, or slurry speech.
