WAYNE Rooney may be injured, but a supermarket is hoping to discover a new set of youngsters to represent their country this summer.
Asda, in Bishop Auckland, will hold trials to find four hopefuls to join the retailer's English junior team for the Asda Kids Cup.
Swerve and Score heats will be held from today until Wednesday, in the store's car park, between 2pm and 5pm. The heats will be for youngsters aged from seven to ten.
The challenge will be to dribble through cones and score a goal in the fastest time possible. Two boys and two girls will be invited to a further event in the region, where top coaches will put them through their paces.
The best youngsters from the ten events across the country will be selected for the England team to compete against Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland sides in the summer.
Events co-ordinator Caroline Laskey said: "This is a great opportunity for us to find the next Alan Shearer or Michael Owen in our area. The more kids there are playing the game now, the better it is for football. The chance of winning cups in the future rests on youth."
