A CONVOY of scooters took to the road on Saturday with a charity destination in mind.
About 150 scooters brought Hartlepool to a standstill as they road through the town centre to deliver a cheque to a children's charity.
The event was organised by the region's A19 Scooter Club in a bid to raise funds for the Children's Bereavement Support Unit, at Hartlepool General Hospital.
Originally billed as a local event, word quickly spread to fellow scooter enthusiasts across the region, who decided to show their support.
Riders travelled from Darlington, Whitby, Sunderland and Durham to take part in the event.
The convoy started at Wolviston Road Service Station, near Billingham, and travelled towards Hartlepool, along Brenda Road, Stockton Road, York Road and into the town centre.
A welcoming committee greeted the riders and members presented the charity with a cheque for £500.
A further £382 was raised during another fundraising event afterwards at the Staincliffe Hotel, in Hartlepool.
Mark Beveridge, a member of the A19 Scooter Club, said: "It went really well. We certainly brought Hartlepool to a standstill - everyone was stopping and staring.
"We are going to make it a regular thing now."
