A COASTGUARD will take on six of the toughest peaks when he embarks on his biggest charity challenge to date.
Frequent fundraiser Paul Waugh, 42, from Skelton, east Cleveland, will attempt the UK's Three Peaks and the Three Peaks of Yorkshire in one weekend this month.
Within 24 hours, he hopes to have climbed Ben Nevis, in Scotland, Scafell Pike, in the Lake District, and Snowden in Wales.
And within 12 hours, he aims to climb Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside, and Ingleborough, in North Yorkshire.
The challenge will take place over the weekend of April 21, with money raised donated to the East Cleveland Trust for the Blind, in Guisborough.
Mr Waugh, who is a tireless fundraiser for local charities, is appealing for sponsorship.
When he reaches the top of each peak, he hopes to leave behind a memorial token to remember his friend, Colin Riddiough, who died in a mountain tragedy in Spain last month.
Mr Waugh said: "I have never done them before, and I was supposed to be doing them with Colin. I grew up with him and we used to do fundraising things together - we did things to help people who can't help themselves, to make a difference to someone."
