BIDS are being made for £200,000 to ensure that 260 elderly people can go on enjoying weekly outings.
The cash is needed to ensure ten day clubs operate for another three years in the rural area around Barnard Castle.
The figure was announced by Peter Blackmore, manager of Teesdale Day Club project, who said: "The clubs are a lifeline for many senior citizens, who would hardly get out of their homes and have any social life otherwise.
"They all get a very good three-course meal, but even more important is the fact they meet up with friends, take part in some games or entertainment and get advice and help."
Community worker Madeleine Walton said: "Members say their lunch outing is the highlight of every week."
Funding currently comes from the Northern Rock Foundation and National Lottery. Bids for the next three years are being made to the same bodies and others.
Finance administrator Pat Asquith said it will be impossible to continue with the same service unless £200,000 can be found.
