Only three games were played on Saturday but results could not have been better for championship hopefuls Stokesley SC.
Not only did they hit Nissan SSC Sunderland for six but leaders Cleadon were surprisingly defeated and second-top Windscale could only draw.
Stokesley, though, made no mistake and romped to victory establishing a four-goal lead before Nissan claimed a consolation.
Jonathan Newton gave the home side a flying start finding the net with a simple tap-in following a four-man move which ended with James Allsopp unselfishly squaring the ball to Newton.
Newton made it two late in the first half, and it was just about all over for the Wearsiders as Harrison Davies and Richard Mills, son of former Middlesbrough favourite David, struck early in the second period.
Stephen Bagley reduced the deficit finding the net after Nissan produced their best attack of the game but the respite was short-lived and after Newton completed his hat-trick, Richard Hore made the final score 6-1.
Coxhoe Athletic produced the shock result of the season when they defeated leaders Cleadon SC 2-1 despite being a goal behind at the halfway stage.
The South Tynesiders took full advantage of the wind and dictated play during the opening 45 minutes but it was not until just before the break that a resolute Coxhoe defence conceded a goal to Finbar Lynch.
The home side came more into the picture but even so goalkeeper Andrew Allen had to pull off three excellent saves to keep his side in with a chance.
Player manager Don Williams restored parity and in the last 15 minutes Robert Tones hit the winner as Coxhoe, who are fifth from bottom, celebrated victory for only the fifth time in 26 games.
Jarrow, seventh from the basement, were the under-dogs at title-challengers Windscale but produced a battling performance and deservedly returned home with a point.
Just before the end, Brad Thompson almost snatched the winner for Jarrow who were hugely delighted with their performance.
