A PE teacher is training to take part in two marathons around the world to raise money for charity.
Richard Alderson, from Bridgemere Drive, Framwellgate Moor, Durham City, is taking part in the Paris marathon on Sunday.
The 31-year-old, who teaches at Northfield School and Sports College, in Billingham, Teesside, also hopes to take part in the 26-mile run in New York on November 5.
He is raising money for Breast Cancer Care after family members were affected by the illness.
Mr Alderson has been training on treadmills at a gym in Chester-le-Street.
He said: "I enjoy keeping fit and I wanted to raise awareness of breast cancer.
"I am not looking to break any records but hope to complete the races before the four-hour mark.
"I have visited New York and loved it, so I thought it was a city I would like to run around and, having not been to Paris since I was a kid, I am looking forward to going back and taking part in that marathon.
"I am feeling confident and looking forward to them, but I will be glad when I have done them. Hopefully, the training will pay off."
Mr Alderson has raised £500 so far, but previously raised £1,000 by taking part in the Great North Run and London Marathon in 2004.
