BUSY stops on a flagship North Yorkshire route will soon be telling waiting passengers what time the next bus is arriving.
Transport chiefs have selected stops on the Leeds-Harrogate-Ripon route (Route 36), for the system. It locates the next bus via a satellite system at the offices of Harrogate and District Travel, and screens the information at the stop.
The system will also tell passengers what time a second bus will arrive at the stop.
Harrogate Borough Council's chief engineer Chris McGonigle said an original information system had become unreliable, after initially contributing to an eight per cent increase passenger numbers on routes between Harrogate and Knaresborough.
Now the bus company has bought a new tracking system and hopes to have the technology fitted on the Leeds-Harrogate-Ripon route within a month.
