STUDENTS at a Darlington school opened a Fairtrade restaurant for two nights.
Carmel College's Fairtrade group served 40 guests, with patrons included parents, teachers, headteacher James O'Neill and two visiting teachers from Spain.
The students devised a three-course menu using only organic and Fairtrade items from local supermarkets to highlight the end of Fairtrade Fortnight.
The pupils prepared, cooked and served the meals in between revising for their GCSE exams.
The group has sold more than £4,000-worth of Fairtrade products in school in the past year and now hopes Darlington will become a Fairtrade town.
