YOUNG musicians have fought it out in a battle of the bands competition.
Pupils from years eight to 11 at Queen Mary's School, Thirsk, took part in the annual competition.
The groups included Toxic, Singa Mingas, Pink Ladybirds, Red Cows, Pink Sheep and Nameless.
The winners were a band called Stars and Stripes.
Teacher Ian Massie said: "It is a very popular event in the school's musical calendar, attracting a standing-room only audience.
"A collection at the event last year sent a substantial sum to one of the charities linked with the school.
"This year, it will raise money for a synthesiser guitar, enabling guitarists to compose more easily on the school's computers."
