A COUPLE who met on the dance floor yesterday celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary.
Thomas Burlison, 84, met his wife, Mary, 80, at an event in a hut during the war.
He was a miner at the time, and his wife, who worked at the local dairy, was known as Mary the Milk Lass.
The couple, of Mendip Avenue, Chester-le-Street, celebrated with family and friends.
They have a son, Kenneth.
They were given flowers by Chester-le-Street District Council chairman Councillor Allen Turner.
Mr Burlison said: "We have had a wonderful 60 years together."
